TIFAC-CORE IN INDUSTRIAL SAFETY

Department of Science & Technology (DST), New Delhi, has recognized the department of Mechanical Engineering as a CENTRE OF RELEVANCE & EXCELLENCE(CORE)    in INDUSTRIAL SAFETY. A MoU / agreement was signed between Department of Science and Technology and our college on 04-10-2000. The TIFAC-CORE was launched by Bharat Ratna Dr.APJ.Abdulkalam, then Principal Scientific  Adviser to Government of India on 8-11-2000. Under TIFAC-CORE a safety lab has been established at a cost of Rs.2 Crores. The college has spent more than 36 lakh rupees to construct a building for safety laboratory, classrooms and a permanent exhibition hall.

    • TIFAC-CORE in Industrial Safety is conducting M.E. degree program in Industrial Safety Engineering since 2002. The course is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and approved by AICTE, New Delhi. It has been recognized as a qualification for the post of Safety Officer by the Labor and Employment (M2) Department, Government ofTamilnadu as per the G.O. M.S. No.291 dated 26.10.2004.
    • With the help of the mobile safety van in-plant training programmes are conducted in the industry premises enabling transfer of learning to the working place immediately. In all over 13,500 people have been benefited through 82 programmes. The objectives of the above programmes are to create awareness among the workers on safety, accident prevention, clean working environment, productivity improvement, waste reduction, etc.
    • TIFAC-CORE has completed research projects of worth 26.46 lakhs sponsored by government  DRDL, Hyderabad and PESO, Nagpur.
    • A state-of-the-art facility with high end research equipments like ICP Spectrometer, Atomic Force Microscope, UV Visible Spectrophotometer, Particle size analyser, Scanning Electron Microscope etc. is available to take up any research work in Industrial Safety Engineering.
    • The Metal Powder Company, Thirumangalam, along with their allied units ALCO and NALCO have come forward as industrial partners of TIFAC-CORE.
    • Every year TIFAC-CORE is celebrating National Safety Day on 4th March.
    • TIFAC-CORE has been extended with a financial aid of 3 crore from DST, India
