Mechanical Research Centre

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1993 and offers B.E Mechanical Engineering, M.E CAD/CAM and M.E Industrial Safety Engineering. The Department has been recognized as a Research Center to have interaction with Anna University Chennai for collaborative research programme which leads to Ph.D, M.S Degree by research. The Department is well equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and infrastructural facilities in all the thrust areas.

Centre for CAD

Centre for CAD is well equipped with state of the art facilities that includes CAE Software facilities like ANSYS, SOLIDWORKS, PROE,LSDYNA, MATLAB etc., Besides materials modelling and Simulation software like MATERIALSTUDIO is available for materials modelling and Simulation.
  1. To promote emerging technological and knowledge base innovative ventures that seek the nurturing of ideas from professional beyond the traditional activities of Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises.
  2. To aim at Identification and Commercialization of Innovative Business Ideas.
  3. To promote generation of new ideas in the field of mechanical engineering, food processing, chemical, and electronic and software and engineering in genera at a nascent stage
  4. To assist design of novel materials through digital image enhancement softwares.
  5. To provide an environment for the Modeling and Simulation of nano materials using molecular simulation softwares.
  6. To execute mathematical modeling and Simulation for complex engineering problems.
  7. To give necessary inputs to the Design of complex machine components through Finite Element Analysis softwares.

Centre for Manufacturing

Centre for Manufacturing Excellence is well equipped with state of the art facilities that includes CNC Production Lathe, CNC Milling Machine with ATC, CMM, Vision Measuring System, Friction Stud Welding Machine & Surface Roughness Tester. Besides softwares such as Capsmill, Capsturn, SeeNCmill, SeeNCturn are available for generation of NC codes.

Centre for Nano Science

Based on the importance and needs of Nano Science and Technology, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College has established Nano Science and Technology building with well-equipped laboratory from the academic year 2007. This unique P.G. Degree course comes under the affiliation of Anna University, Chennai and it is introduced for the first time under AICTE, New Delhi.

Centre for Safety (TIFAC-CORE)


Mechanical Department has been recognized as Centre of Relevance and Excellence in Industrial Safety by Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The TIFAC-CORE in Industrial Safety was inaugurated by Bharath Ratna Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam, the then Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India was the outcome of Government, Industry and Institute.

Apart from offering M.E. in Industrial Safety Engineering which has been recognized by the Labour and Employment (M2) Department, Government of Tamilnadu as a qualification for the post of Safety Officer, this centre dedicates itself in the development of Human Resource in safety engineering. The centre collaborates with BHEL, Trichy, CLRI/CISRA, DST and DRDL. The TIFAC-CORE is mandated to engage itself in the safety promotional activities by conducting In-plant safety training programmes and safety audits. The centre is capable to do consultancy services in Risk Analysis, HAZOP study and Consequences Analysis. The services are not only for the industries but for public and student community also.
