TBI in our College, set up to promote innovation and entrepreneurship by converting and translating technology ideas in various disciplines of science and engineering into products, processes and services for commercial exploitation and for the benefit of society. We facilitate incubation of new enterprises with innovative technologies by admitting them into TBI and providing them with physical, technical, managerial and networking supports and services. Our college has done various projects funded by TBI scheme of MSME, TIFAC-CORE and DST.

Design and Fabrication of Coconut Climbing Machine
coconut1 Coconut growing states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Goa are facing a shortage of climbers, avital link in the production chain, with very few people taking on the traditional profession. The scarcity of labour disrupts harvesting cycle’s thus causing loss of income to the growers. At present three methods are available for coconut harvesting,which are the manual method, pole climbing method, and trained monkeys .Limitations in the manual method shortage of the labor, no safety for the climber. To Overcome this methods , we design a new coconut plucking machine to harvest the coconuts , without climbing a man to the tree. With a fully automatic control with the applications of PLC Control.
Friction Stud Welding Machine
frictionwelding At present, in our country, arc stud and capacitor discharge stud welding are being used extensively for automobile, aerospace, marine and agricultural applications. Arc Stud welding is an arc welding process in which, a stud or similar metal part can be end-joined to a work piece instantaneously. This stud welding process involves the same basic procedures and metallurgical aspects as any other arc welding procedure. Nevertheless, arc stud welding is not ecofriendly process and it leads to large heat affected zones, solidification defects and slag inclusions or weld metal dilution. On the other hand imported friction stud welding is very expensive.
AMORCES DIPPING MACHINE
Amorces is one of the fireworks products which is commonly known as Dot and Roll caps. These products are which are widely used during festivals by children. In this process, some chemicals are being used which are very high friction sensitive.

During manufacturing of amorces, the slurry chemicals of potassium chlorate and red phosphorous are prepared initially and kept in a tray. The brass nail is dipped in the tray and spotted on the A4 size paper. A similar size of tissue paper is pasted over the spotted surface and dried. Then the paper was cut as per the requirement like rolls or dots. Here utmost care should be taken in the cutting process to prevent explosion. The knife must not touch the chemical dots while cutting the paper. Since all the processes are done manually, the possibility of accidents and their consequences will be more. The whole process can be split with number of small activities. These repetitive simple jobs can be boring for people to do for long periods of time. So, automation or semi automation of such small activities in the manufacturing process will increase Productivity as well as Safety.

Amorces Dipping In manual dipping, the array may not be vertical and not identical for all papers. This leads to more wastage in the subsequent cutting section if the cutting blade touches the dots, and hence the entire strip has to be ignited due to friction between the blade and the chemicals. In the equipment dipping, the dots will be identical and so, the wastages due to improper dipping can be avoided completely. Since the dipping process is automatic, the quantity of the chemicals in each dot is equal. This cannot be achievable in manual process. So, the quality of the dot can be ensured. Since no electrical equipment are used here and no metal to metal friction, hence, the fire hazard can be eliminated. Also, earthing can be provided and hence static electricity hazards can be prevented. About 700 fireworks industries are running in and around Sivakasi. So this product will be useful to all the industries and save the human life.
CHORSA FILLING CHAMBER

Chorsa is one of the basic products for manufacturing the crackers in fireworks industries. To manufacture any crackers, first the chemicals are mixed homogeneously and then filled into the tubes are the most important processes. At present in fireworks industries, these processes are done manually. During these process, there was a heavy spillage of chemicals in the work environment. This leads to severe spillage and accident risk. Any small spark due to friction between surfaces or static charge can lead to an accident. The workers’ position during working is very awkward and leads to repetitive strain injury. In order to avoid the existing problems, there shall be need to create a new equipment with increased productivity and safety.

In this regard the investigators considered these processes and proposed to fabricate new equipment. The newly designed chamber is made up of aluminium and therefor static charge will be easily conducted to the earth. Dust explosion will be prevented because any sources of ignition cannot be introduced in the process area. Because of the process is enclosed, workers health will be ensured. About 600 fireworks industries are running in and around Sivakasi. So this product will be useful to all the industries and save the human life and protect the environment.

Mechanical Department has been recognized as Centre of Relevance and Excellence in Industrial Safety by Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The TIFAC-CORE in Industrial Safety was inaugurated by Bharath Ratna Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam, the then Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India was the outcome of Government, Industry and Institute.

Apart from offering M.E. in Industrial Safety Engineering which has been recognized by the Labour and Employment (M2) Department, Government of Tamilnadu as a qualification for the post of Safety Officer, this centre dedicates itself in the development of Human Resource in safety engineering. The centre collaborates with BHEL, Trichy, CLRI/CISRA, DST and DRDL. The TIFAC-CORE is mandated to engage itself in the safety promotional activities by conducting In-plant safety training programmes and safety audits. The centre is capable to do consultancy services in Risk Analysis, HAZOP study and Consequences Analysis. The services are not only for the industries but for public and student community also.
