PROFILE

Mepco Schlenk Engienering College, Sivakasi, is a leading ISO 9001-2008 certified self-financing Engineering College started on 17th October 1984 in the presence of Ms. & Mr.Gunter Von Schlenk, Ms. & Mr.Erwin Flohrer from M/s. Carl Schlenk A G and Dr.S.Krishnaswamy, Vice Chancellor, Madurai Kamaraj University.

The College is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University Chennai with Permanent Affiliation for 15 out of 18 courses. All the UG Courses of our college have been granted with Accreditation by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi under Tier I Category. Also our college is accredited with A Grade for a period of 5 years from 03-03-2015 by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. Our college has been granted Autonomous Status by UGC, New Delhi from the academic year 2013-14 and choice based credit system (CBCS) in true sense, Fast Track Scheme to undertake internship cum project during 8th semester, special courses by Industry / Academic experts from India and abroad are introduced. The institution is fast catered to bridge the gap of demand and supplies of quality Engineers and Managers and completes 34th year of Service par Excellence. With Quality, Standard and Discipline as Mantras, the ideal practices like complete Academic Freedom, emphasis on Outcome Based Education (OBE), encouragement for Research and serene campus life, emphasizing overall personality developments are catalytic for the present status of the institution.   • BUILDINGS:
  • The college has reached new heights with buildings, sky-scrapping the reputation of the college. They cover a total plinth area of about 1,11,283 sq.m (11,97,850 sq.ft) with a design founded on the safety and comfort of students.
  • LABORATORIES:
    • Without any aid from the Government the management has invested more than Rs.123 crores for infrastructural facilities. All the labs and workshops have been well equipped with the latest equipment worth of Rs.35 crores during the past 34 years.
  • INTERNET:
    • The College has 155 Mbps internet bandwidth. All the buildings in the college including hostels are wifi enabled.
  • HOSTELS:
    • The College has 5 Gents' and 5 Ladies' hostels. The mess is run on dividing system with an average daily rate of Rs.60 for gents and Rs.50 for ladies. The mess provides with a gourmet and nutritious food. Wi-Fi facility is available in all hostels to access internet and intranet. One ISDN telephone for every 20 students. DTH connections are provided in all the hostels and the Guest House. Indoor Games: Table Tennis, Chess, Carom etc. Outdoor Games: Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Cricket, Ball Badminton, Tennis etc. STUDENTS AMENITIES: Tamilnad Mercantile Bank extension counter with ATM, Canteen, Dining Halls for Day scholars, Meditation Hall, Post Office, STD & FAX, Xerox facilities, General Stores, Medical Centre with Residential Doctor, Reprography facility in library, college and hostel.
  • TRANSPORT:
    • The transportation facilities are available from Virudhunagar and Sivakasi.
  • ELECTRICAL (POWER SECTION):
    • The College is well equipped with 3 transformers with the total capacity of 1000 kVA and also proposed to increase the total capacity to 1800 kVA. 5 diesel generator sets with a total capacity of 700 kVA caters to the emergency electricity needs.
  • WATER PURIFICATION PLANT:
    • Equipped with 4 Reverse Osmosis unit with a capacity of 25,000 litres per day. The total drinking water consumption in the campus is fulfilled with purified drinking water.
  • SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT:
    • The lawns are grown lush and flora is flourishing giving freshness and beauty to campus. Teak, tamarind and lime farms are also being maintained. It provides a congenial environment and beautiful campus with the help of 2 STPs of 1 lakh litre capacity each.
  • SOLAR WATER SYSTEM:
    • All the Hostels, Guest House and SAC are having solar water heaters with a total capacity of 27,000 ltrs for bathing and cooking purpose.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1993 and offers B.E Mechanical Engineering, M.E CAD/CAM and M.E Industrial Safety Engineering. The Department has been recognized as a Research Center to have interaction with Anna University Chennai for collaborative research programme which leads to Ph.D, M.S Degree by research. The Department is well equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and infrastructural facilities in all the thrust areas.

Centre for Manufacturing Excellence is well equipped with state of the art facilities that includes CNC Production Lathe, CNC Milling Machine with ATC, CMM, Vision Measuring System, Friction Stud Welding Machine & Surface Roughness Tester. Besides softwares such as Capsmill, Capsturn, SeeNCmill, SeeNCturn are available for generation of NC codes.

About
Based on the importance and needs of Nano Science and Technology, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College has established Nano Science and Technology building with well-equipped laboratory from the academic year 2007. This unique P.G. Degree course comes under the affiliation of Anna University, Chennai and it is introduced for the first time under AICTE, New Delhi.

Centre for Safety (TIFAC-CORE)

About

Mechanical Department has been recognized as Centre of Relevance and Excellence in Industrial Safety by Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The TIFAC-CORE in Industrial Safety was inaugurated by Bharath Ratna Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam, the then Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India was the outcome of Government, Industry and Institute.

Apart from offering M.E. in Industrial Safety Engineering which has been recognized by the Labour and Employment (M2) Department, Government of Tamilnadu as a qualification for the post of Safety Officer, this centre dedicates itself in the development of Human Resource in safety engineering. The centre collaborates with BHEL, Trichy, CLRI/CISRA, DST and DRDL. The TIFAC-CORE is mandated to engage itself in the safety promotional activities by conducting In-plant safety training programmes and safety audits. The centre is capable to do consultancy services in Risk Analysis, HAZOP study and Consequences Analysis. The services are not only for the industries but for public and student community also.

Nano Research Centre

Based on the importance and needs of Nano Science and Technology, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College has established Nano Science and Technology building with well-equipped laboratory from the academic year 2007. The Centre for Nano Science and Technology was established in the year 2014. The Centre has been recognized as a Research Center to have interaction with Anna University Chennai for collaborative research programme which leads to Ph.D, M.S Degree by research. The Research Centre is well equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and infrastructural facilities in the area of nano science.

Two of our Faculty members in the Research Centre are nominated as recognized Supervisor in Centre for Research/Anna University Chennai. Our Faculty members also attended Summer Faculty Research Fellow Programme at IITs.
