v  Dr. R.Jayaraman, our 1994 batch EEE Alumni now working as Power System Operable Engineer in National Grid, Warwick, United Kingdom visited our department to deliver a guest lecture on “System Operation with Embedded Generation" for our final and third year B.E students on 17/08/2016.

v  Er.R.Suresh Kumar now working as Scientific Officer (G-grade) in Instrumentation & Control Department, NPCIL, KKNPP visited our department to deliver a guest lecture on “Electrical & Instrumentation system in Nuclear Power Corporation Of India Limited (NPCIL), Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP)" for our final and third year B.E students on 26/09/2016.

v  Er. Arun Yeagappan, our 1994 batch EEE Alumni now working as Chief Technology Officer at KernRich Infotech, United States visited our department to deliver a guest lecture on “Big Data” for our final and third year B.E students on 03/02/2017.

v  Er.Senthil Athiban, Senior Manager, IT Program/Project Management, National Payments Corporation of India, Chennai (1998 Batch Alumni) and Er. G.Somasundaram, Engineering Manager (Electrical)L&T Construction – PT&D, Chennai (2004 Batch Alumni) visited our department as External Project Reviewers to evaluate and select the best project done by our B.E. – EEE final year students on 07-04-2017.

v  Er. S.M.Ramesh, Partner, R.S.V. Traders, Salt Manufacturers and Exporters, Tuticorin (our 1992 - 1996 EEE batch alumni) acted as Chief Guest and distributed the certificates to our students during the Valedictory Function of IE (I) Students Chapter (EEE) - Association ‘A’ & Association ‘B’ on April 11, 2017.  

v  Er. J.Santhosh, Joint Director (HOD), High Power Lab, Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), Bangalore visited our department to deliver a guest lecture on "Transformer - Testing" for our third and second year B.E students on 08/02/2016.

v  Er. Azarudheen, Assistant Manager – Electrical, Coastal Energen Private Limited, Tuticorin and Er.Manivannan, Vice President, Data Services, Innova Solutions, Chennai visited our department as External Project Reviewers to evaluate and select the best project done by our B.E. – EEE final year students on 06-04-2016.

v  A Guest Lecture on “Recent Trends in Transformer Testing” on 08-02-2016. Er. J.Santhosh, Joint Director (HOD), High Power Lab, CPRI, Bangalore was the resource person.

v  Er. Sivaram Kaliappan, Director, Concretia Rock Products Pvt. Ltd., Madurai (our 1989 - 1993 EEE batch alumni) who is also an entrepreneur who distributed prizes to the winners of various event -  “Witnessed the real world scenario existing in the field of entrepreneurship” on 15.04.2016.

Academic Year - (2014-2015)

v  A guest lecture on “Role of OBC’s and Sensors in Aerospace applications” on 04/03/2015. Er. K.Gobi, Scientist ‘E’, Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Ministry of Defence, Hyderabad was the resource person who delivered the lecture.

v  Er. R.Ramesh Pandi, 1995-99 batch EEE Alumni and Entrepreneur form Sivakasi was the chief guest  held on 01/04/2015

v  Er. M. Chandra Sekar, Deputy Manager, TNPL Wind Farms, Tirunelveli acted as the Chief Guest. He gave a brief lecture about the recent trends in electrical engineering. Then the prize winners and top scorers of various competitive exams were awarded on 24/03/2014

v  A Guest Lecture on “The Path for a Successful Career and Life” on 14/07/2014. Er. R.Rengarajan, B.E., M.S., M.B.A., Director, Enterprise Architecture, CSG International, USA was the resource person.

v  A Guest Lecture on “Atmospheric Electricity” on 21/08/2014. Prof. T.R. Sivaramakrishnan Ph.D., FIETE, Formerly Director, India Meteorological Department and Former Dean & Sr. Professor, Sastra University, Tanjavur was the resource person.

MEPCO - NI LABVIEW ACADEMY

The NI LabVIEW (Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench) Academy is a tailored version of an Internationally recognized curriculum created by National Instruments (NI) - one of the world’s leading providers of software and hardware for Measurement and Control.

Principal Dr.S.Arivazhagan initiated setting up of NI LABVIEW ACADEMY in Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College with the support from National Instruments (NI) Corporation, USA.  This academy was initiated by signing MOU with National Instruments in September, 2014 and Purchase of software and related hardware as per the academy requirements. The sufficient workspace, requirements and support have been provided by the college management immediately.

         The MEPCO - NI Labview Academy will enable both students and faculty to prepare for Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD). Students and faculty can take up NI Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) exam in this Academy.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Conducting Training on LabVIEW software and related hardware
  • Facilitating participants to take CLAD exam.
  • To Facilitate NI certification to Faculty and students on NI LabVIEW graphical programming and interface with measurement and control hardware. Multiple departments (ECE, EEE, EIE, ICE, MECH and CSE) can use the facility of Academy.
  • Conducting workshops and Seminars on LabVIEW for the staff and research scholars.

NI LABVIEW ACADEMY - Outcome

M/s. NI LabVIEW Academy, Bangalore organized 3 days refreshing course on NI LabVIEW software for our 38 faculty and 1 final year EEE Student through M/s.VI Solutions, Bangalore during 18-07-2015 to 20-07-2015.  Online NI LabVIEW CLAD exam was conducted by NI LabVIEW Academy System, USA on 22-07-2015 in our NI LabVIEW Academy Centre on 22-07-2015 for our 38 faculty and 1 final year EEE Student.  7 Faculty and 1 Student received the certificate individually from NI LabVIEW Academy System, USA and  7 Faculty (3 Faculty from EEE, 3 Faculty from ECE and 1 Faculty from CSE) and 40 EEE and 5 ECE Students completed the CLAD exam successfully during 2016.

Received the Project  on "Internet of Things Based Smart Traffic Monitoring and Control in Intelligent Transportation System," by our faculty  J. Senthil Kumar and J. Dani Reagan Vivek  through NI Grant Program ($ 50,000 USD) for Academic Research.

Student Training Programme on NI LabVIEW PROGRAMMING    

 

Organized Faculty Training Programme on NI LabVIEW Software during November 10 -14, 2014 through Mepco NI LabVIEW Academy center. Mr. V.Sunil kamar, Proprietor and Mr. A. Manimaran, Sr.Application Engineer of VI Solutions, Bangalore which is the partner organization of NI LabVIEW Academy are the trainers. They have taken all the sessions with relevant theory and hands on training. 39 of our faculties from various departments (EEE-12, ECE-9, Mech-5, Civil-2, CSE-4, IT-4, Phy-2, MCA-1) participated in the training program. The Training program was inaugurated by Principal Dr.S.Arivazhagan M.E, PhD.  The first session was conducted by   Mr.A. Sunil kamar,which was about the basics and the various features of LabVIEW. 

Organized Training Programme on NI LabVIEW PROGRAMMING during June 30 –July 2, 2016 through Mepco NI LabVIEW Academy Center. This Training programme was handled by Er.A.Manimaran, Sr.Applications Engineer, VI Solutions, Bangalore which is the partner organization of National Instruments. He handled all the sessions for three days which includes the basic programming concepts in NI LabVIEW. 30 students from EEE department attended the training program.

The following students cleared the Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer Examination (CLAD Examination) conducted by National Instruments Systems, USA on 15-7-2016 in our NI LabVIEW Academy Centre.

 List of Training Conducted under MEPCO NI LabVIEW Academy with details:

  • A Three day Faculty Development Programme on “NI LabVIEW Hardware (myDaq & myRio)” during June 22-24, 2016 was organised. 27 Faculties from EEE, ECE, IT, CSE departments have participated.
  • One week Value added course on “Application of LabVIEW for signal processing” during 12-12-2016 to 17-12-2016 was conducted. 20 ECE students were trained.
  • Two days Workshop on “Hardware in the loop simulation for Power Electronics & Control application using LabVIEW” during 16/12/2016 to 17/12/2016 was conducted. 43 Faculties from various engineering colleges from Tamil Nadu have participated.
  • Three day workshop on “Sensor Interfacing and Controllers Implementation using LabVIEW” during 22/02/2017 to 24/02/2017 was conducted. 37 Faculties and PG Students from various engineering college from Tamil Nadu have participated.

During 2016-2017:
