2014 International Conference on Communication and Network Technologies (ICCNT)

 

Research in Communication and Network Technologies has gained momentum for the last three decades resulting in cutting edge technologies and faster techniques reported day by day. The 2014 International Conference on Communication and Network Technologies (ICCNT) is organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, Tamilnadu, India during December 18 - 19, 2014. 2014 ICCNTis the arena for researchers to present their views and formulations in this field. One of the main objectives of the conference is to bring blooming scientists, working engineers and students to a common platform and to share their experiences and results which in turn will foster research relations between academics and industry. 

Dr.S.Arivazhagan our honourable Principal and Patron of the conference presided the inaugural function.  Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Organizing Chair and HoD of ECE Dept., welcomed the gathering. The 2014 ICCNT was inaugurated by delivering the inaugural address on 18th December 2014 by our distinguished chief guest Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao, Scientist F, SAMEER - Centre for Electromagnetics, Chennai.  

The proceeding of the conference in digital form were released by our respected chief guest  Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao and was handed over to the principal, Dr.S.Arivazhagan. Shri. Srinivasa Narayanan, Director-Delivery, CTS, Coimbatore, Guest of honour delivered the felicitation address. The 2014 ICCNT Souvenir was released by Shri. Srinivasa Narayanan and received by Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari.

We had keynote addresses by eminent personalities, Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao,delivered the Keynote Address I on "Advances in UAV Technologies”. He attracted the audience describing the evolution of Unmanned Air Vehicles and its necessity for military purposes. He throws light on the recent and novel technology Micro Air Vehicle and the importance of antennas to overcome jamming for uninterrupted usage of GPS. The recent advancements on unmanned Air Vehicles were presented as video.

 

The Keynote Address II on the topic “Network Technologies”, by Shri. Srinivasa Narayanan, Director-Delivery, Shri. Lakshmanan Veluchamy, Senior Manager- Delivery, CTS, Coimbatore,was the highlight of the subsequent session. They made an enthusiastic, energetic, interesting and interactive presentation on SMAC (Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud), Hybrid Cloud Service, Converged Infrastructure and Infrastructure automated control. They briefed about concept of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPV6) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN).

On the second day of the conference, Keynote address III, was delivered by, Dr. K.R.Ramakrishnan, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, on “Graph Signal Processing”. In this session the students were introduced with the theory and applications of emerging tools for signal processing on graphs, including a review of spectral graph theory and highlight the importance of incorporating the irregular structures, filtering and Multi-scale transforms for signals on graphs. The audience enjoyed the session and obtained more information regarding Digital Signal Processing on Graphs.

Dr.K.Muneeswaran, Sr. Prof. & Head, Department of CSE, Mepco Schlenk Enginnering College delivered the Keynote address IV on “Image Retrieval by Syntax and Semantic means”.  He briefed about the image retrieval by colors, shapes and textures and stressed the importance of intelligent information processing which is a rapidly growing and promising area. He briefed with experimental results that the retrieval systems based on  low  level  features  are considered as unsatisfactory  and unpredictable since  do  not  match  human  perception and this gap can be bridged with semantic

 

 

 

 International Conference on Computational Intelligence and

Multimedia Applications 2007 (ICCIMA ’07)

(December 13-15, 2007)

            The Seventh International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Multimedia Applications 2007 (ICCIMA ’07) was hosted in a grand manner by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of our College during December 13-15, 2007. The Conference was attended by around 400 Delegates across the world including 15 from abroad.

Inaugural Function:

The 13th of December 2007, the first day of ICCIMA ’07, sawthe Inaugural Function of the Conferencewhich was presided by Thiru A.Vairaprakasam, Correspondent. The Chief Guest of the functionwas Dr.S.Kaliappan, Vice Chancellor, Anna University, Tirunelveli. Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal delivered the Welcome Address. Dr.Henry Selvaraj, Professor and Chair, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering., University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA presented the Roadmap of ICCIMA. Then, Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Organizing Chair briefed about ICCIMA ’07. Dr.S.Kaliappan, Vice Chancellor, Anna University, Tirunelveli inaugurated the Conference and delivered the Inaugural Address. Also, he released the IEEE Proceedings of ICCIMA ’07 (4 Volumes) during the occasion and first copies were received by Dr.Sankar Kumar Pal, Director and Distinguished Scientist, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Immediately after the Inaugural function, Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan declared open an Exhibition which was arranged to exhibit the products of various companies and the publications of several publishers in various fields.

Releasing of the Proceedings and declaring open of the Exhibition

Key note Addresses:

Dr.Sankar Kumar Pal,Director and Distinguished Scientist, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkatta, India delivered the Keynote Address on Machine Intelligence, Computational Theory of Perception and Rough-Fuzzy Computing, immediately after the inaugural function. Later, in the afternoon session Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India delivered the keynote address on Digital Image / Video Forensics. On 14.12.2007Fore noon session, Dr.C.Chandrasekhar, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology  Madras, Chennai, delivered the keynote address on Kernel Methods for Speech and Image Processing Tasks and Dr.D.S. Guru, Department of Studies in Computer Science, University of Mysore, Mysore delivered the keynote address on Small Eigen Value Based Solutions to Feature Extraction in Images in the afternoon session. In the forenoon session of the next day, the keynote address on Texture Image Features was delivered by Dr.L.Ganesan, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Alagappa Chettiyar College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi.

Paper Presentation:

During the three days of the conference around 300 papers in the areas of Image / Video Processing, Image / Video Compression, Fuzzy Systems, Artificial Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithm, Knowledge based Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Databases and Data Mining, Pattern Recognition, Multimedia Information Retrieval, Multimedia Security, Multimedia Algorithms, Multimedia and Telecommunications, Multimedia Systems, Logic Synthesis, Hybrid Systems and Intelligent Control Systems were presented in 35 oral presentation sessions and 2 poster presentation sessions, conducted in 6 different venues.

Entertainment & Dinner:

On 13.12.07, 6.30 P.M., there was an Entertainment Programme by Our College Fine Arts Team which includedmellifluous and foot tapping songsand dance both classical and folk music.The delegates were awestruck by the spectacular Fireworks Display by Standard Fire Works, Sivakasi followed by the Banquet Dinner served in Sports Arena of our College.

Interaction with the Foreign Delegates:

An interactive meeting was arranged with Foreign Delegates and all HODs on 15.12.2007 to discuss Research & Development Activities and higher studies opportunities in Abroad.   

Valedictory Function:

The Valedictory Function on 15.12.07 was presided by Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal. The Chief Guest of the function Dr.T.K.Srikanth, Head, Handset Solutions Division, Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., Bangalore delivered the Valedictory Address. Also, he gave away mementos to Exhibitors and Sponsors during the occasion. The Delegates gave a very positive feedback about the Organization of the Conference with a true team work. Consolidation of the Conference Proceedings was done by Dr.Henry Selvaraj, Professor and Chair, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA. Dr. S.Arivazhagan, Organizing Chair ICCIMA’07 proposed the Vote of Thanks, thanking the people who were directly and indirectly involved in the conference.

National Conference

Sixth National Conference on Communication Technologies (NCCT ‘17)

March 15, 2017

          The sixth National Conference on Communication Technologies (NCCT ‘17) was conducted by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College on March 15, 2017. The Conference was attended by 43 Delegates. The Sixth National Conference on Communication Technologies - NCCT ‘17 inaugural function started at 9.15 AM on 15th March 2017.

          Dr.R.Shantha Selvakumari, Sr.Prof.& Head, ECE department welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal, MSEC presided over the inaugural function. Dr (Mrs) R.Sukanesh, Associate Professor and Head, Department of ECE, Thiyagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, the Chief Guest for the inaugural functionlighted the Kuthvilakku. She then released the Proceedings of the NCCT’17 Conference. In her inaugural address, Dr (Mrs) R.Sukanesh discussed about generation of wireless networks

 

           Dr (Mrs) R.Sukanesh, delivered the Keynote Address on Wireless Networks.Her talk mainly focuses on development of wireless technology. The initial part of the talk focused on 1G which uses analog signals with less data rate. Further the evolution from 1G to 5G was clearly explained. She explained various features such as datarate, bandwidth, size of handset and security of each mobile generation. She stressed that 5G will bring almost perfect real world wireless or called WWWW: World Wide Wireless Web

           35 technical papers were presented by delegates in the areas of Mobile Communication & Network Security, VLSI, Embedded Systems & Automation, Network Security, Image Processing and Signal Processing. Two sessions: Mobile Communication & Network Security and VLSI& Embedded Systems ran as two different sessions in ECE seminar Hall, Third session: Image Processing and Signal Processing ran in Advanced Communication Lab of our College.

            After the completion of four technical paper sessions, the Valedictory Function was started by 3.45 PM on 15.03.17. Dr.R.Shantha Selvakumari, Sr.Prof. & Head, ECE and Organizing Chairperson, NCCT’17 distributed certificates to the authors who presented their papers in the Conference. Dr.S.Syed Ameer Abbas,Organizing Secretary, NCCT ’17 proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Fifth National Conference on Communication Technologies (NCCT ‘16)

         The Fifth National Conference on Communication Technologies (NCCT ‘16) was conducted by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College on March 23, 2016. The Conference was attended by 43 Delegates. The Fifth National Conference on Communication Technologies - NCCT ‘16 inaugural function started at 9.15 AM on 23rd March 2016.

Dr.R.Balasubramanian delivering Keynote Address

Dr. R.Balasubramanian, delivered the Keynote Address on Machine Learning and its applications in Imaging and Vision. His talk mainly focuses on the applications of Machine learning in Vision, CBVR, Sign Language Recognition and Script Independent Scene Text Segmentation. The initial part of the talk focused onhuman action recognition using LDA Tree and SVM Tree and Sign Language Recognition using DWT and SVM. Further the applications of machine learning in CBVR using Directed Acyclic Graph SVM and Script Independence Scene Text Segmentation using Fast Stroke Width Transform and Grabcut were discussed.

 Fourth National Conference on "Communication Technologies – NCCT '12"

The Fourth National Conference on Communication Technologies (NCCT ‘12) was conducted in a grand manner by Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College on March 02, 2012. The Conference was attended by 53 Delegates.

Inaugural Function:

Dr.S.Arivazhagan, HOD/ECE welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal, MSEC presided over the inaugural function. Dr.S.Raghavan, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Trichy, and the Chief Guest for the inaugural function lighted the Kuthvilakku. He then released the Proceedings of the Conference and Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal, MSEC received the first copy of the Proceedings. In his inaugural address, Dr.S.Raghavan stressed on the importance of RF MEMS and BIO MEMS in the near future embedded and wearable devices and antenna.

Dr.S.Raghavan, delivered the Keynote Address I on RF MEMS. He attracted the audience describing the MIC fabrication facilities and Laboratoriess in India. He has shown the real sample of fabricated MIC devices designed by him. He explained the different types of MICs and RF MEMS applications in real life like bio medical solutions like drug delivery systems and therapatic devices. He listed the applications of RF MEMS including military tanks and the devices can act as spy.

Latest Trends in Ad-Hoc and Wireless Networksthe Keynote Address IIby Dr.R.Sukanesh was the highlight of the Afternoon SessionShemade an enthusiastic, energetic, interesting and interactive presentation. She pointed out the requirements of Wireless and Adhoc Networks. She explained with suitable historical examples the way of adhoc communication made in the past with the current technology and applications. The audience enjoyed the session and obtained more information regarding wireless networks.

Third National Conference on Communication Technologies 

The Third National Conference on Communication Technologies - NCCT ‘10 wasorganized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College on March 19, 2010. Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, HOD-In-Charge/ECE welcomed the gathering and Dr.P.Nagaraj, Professor-In-Charge, MSEC presided over the inaugural function. Dr.N.Kumaravel, Professor & Head, Department of ECE, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai, the Chief Guest for the inaugural functionlighted the Kuthvilakku. He then released the Proceedings of the Conference and Dr.P.Nagaraj, Principal-In-Charge, MSEC received the first copy of the Proceedings. In his inaugural address, Dr.N.Kumaravel stressed on the importance of Quality Research.

Challenges in Medical Image Archiving & Communicationthe Keynote Address IIby Dr.R.Murugesan, Professor Emeritus, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai was the highlight of the afternoon sessionHemade an enthusiastic, energetic, interesting and interactive presentation. He pointed out the requirements of Telemedicine which involves bandwidth, processing and security constraints. The audience enjoyed the session and obtained more information regarding watermarking.

Around 40 technical papers which have been accepted for the Conference were presented by delegates from various parts of the country in the areas of Signal Processing, Image Processing, VLSI, Computer Communication, Embedded Systems, Mobile Communication, Optical Communication, Network Security, GPS, Smart Systems and Soft Computing. The sessions ran parallel in two different venues namely, ECE seminar Hall, and Advanced Communication Lab of our College. The papers were scrutinized by a team of reviewers.

The valedictory function marked the successful conduct of NCCT’10, where Dr. Dr.R.Murugesan was the Chief Guest. In his valedictory address, he gave tips to the delegates about doing research. He encouraged them to publish their work in international Journals by refining their work. He also distributed certificates to the authors who presented their papers in the Conference. Dr.D.Selvathi, Organizing Secretary, NCCT ’10 proposed the vote of thanks.    

National Conference on Communication Technologies  (NCCT ’08) March 14 & 15, 2008

The two day  National Conference on Communication Technologies - NCCT ‘08 organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College was flagged off to a great start on March 14, 2008. Dr.S.Arivazhagan, HOD/ECE and Chairman, NCCT’08 welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal, MSEC and Patron, NCCT’08 presided over the inaugural function. Mr.C.N.S.Guruparan, Head, Program Management, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications, India Branch, Chennai, the Chief Guest for the inaugural functionlighted the Kuthvilakku. He then released the Proceedings of the Conference and Dr.K.P.Soman, Professor & Head, Department of CEN, Amritha Vishwa Vidhyapeetham, Coimbatore received the first copy of the Proceedings. In his inaugural address, Mr.C.N.S.Guruparan urged everyone to look into nature and develop technologies from it.

Mr.C.N.S.Guruparan, delivered the Keynote Address I on Role on Communication Technologies in Human Civilization and their Unifying Effects. He enthralled the audience throwing light on the importance and role of various communication technologies in day to day life. Also he added that the students of today need to get an exposure in the ever hot area of Radio Frequency System Design. In a nutshell, no single feedback form filled by the delegates failed to appreciate his presentation.

Wavelet Transform and its Applications, the Keynote Address IIby Dr.K.P.Soman was the highlight of the afternoon session on day 1(March 14, 2008) of NCCT ‘08. Hemade everyone to realize the inevitable role played by wavelet Transforms in almost every area of research. His introduction to Cognitive radio enlightened the audience on an emerging trend.

On the first day, 17 technical papers which have been accepted for the Conference were presented by delegates from various parts of the country in the areas of Mobile Communication, Microwave Communication, Coding Techniques and Radio Frequency System Design and Soft Computing. The sessions ran parallel in two different venues namely, ECE seminar Hall, and Advanced Communication Lab of our College

On day 2(March 15, 2008), Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao, SAMEER-Centre for Electromagnetics, Chennai gave the Keynote Address III on Emerging Trends in Communcation Technologies. He elaborated on his experience with different types of antennae, especially the E-patch antenna. He discussed in detail ‘Software Defined Radio’ and ‘Cognitive Radio’.

Also, delegates from various parts of the country presented about 24 technical papers in the areas of Signal Processing, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition, VLSI, Computer Communication, Embedded Systems and Network Security. The papers were critically evaluated by distinguished personalities in the corresponding areas.

The valedictory function marked the end of the two day technical celebrations, where Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao was the Chief Guest. In his valedictory address, he advised the students to work in the field of Antenna Design, where the gates are still open. He encouraged all young researchers to present their experimental outcomes in forums like NCCT’08. He stressed the importance of their works being critically reviewed as such constructive criticism could lead them miles forward in their journey of research. He also distributed certificates to the authors who presented their papers in the Conference. Prof.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Professor/ECE proposed the vote of thanks.

National Conference on Communication Technologies  (NCCT ’06)

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College organized a National Conference on Communication Technologies - NCCT ‘06 during March 10-11, 2006. The Brochure of this conference was sent to about 800 technical institutions and research laboratories throughout India. There was an over whelming response from the authors towards paper presentation. Around 275 papers were received, out of which based on Internal and External Reviews around 92 papers are accepted without any changes while 88 more papers are accepted with changes for oral presentation.

NCCT ‘06 was flagged off to a great start on March 10, 2006 by Shri.P.Venugopalan, Director, Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad. Shrimathi Venugopalan lighted the Kuthvilakku. Dr.S.Sundarrajan, Deputy Programme Director (PJ-10), DRDL, Hyderabad released the Proceedings of the Conference and Dr.S.Rangarajan, Director (P & R), DRDL, Hyderabad received the first copy of the Proceedings. During the inaugural address, Shri.P.Venugopalan elaborated his experience in DRDL and the aspect of communication technologies in developing Thermo Supersonic Systems which was developed with Russian collaboration. The above system has usable environment and real time Networking Communication which leads fast as well as reliable communication.

Also, he added that the students of today are fortunate to have exposure on modern technologies and modern ideas. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of MepcoSchlenk Engineering College (Remote Centre ID : 1013) has conducted a Two Week ISTE Main Workshop on CMOS, Mixed Signal and Radio Frequency VLSI Design, byNational Mission on Education through ICT (MHRD, Govt. of India), 30th January to 4th February, 2017. One Week Faculty Development Programme on “RF circuits & Antenna Design”

December 19-23, 2016

 

Mepco - Agilent R &D Centre of Excellence in RF Circuits & Antenna Design, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College in collaboration with Keysight (Agilent) Technologies, Bangalore and Ansys HFSS, Bangalore has organised a One Week Faculty Development Programme on the topic “RF circuits & Antenna Design” during December 19-23, 2016. The Faculty Development Programme on the topic “RF circuits & Antenna Design” is sponsored by IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTTS) and IEEE Antenna and Propagation Society (AP-S), Madras Chapter. 38 participants attended the seminar from 11 different colleges from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Sr.Prof. & Head/ECE & Convener of the function welcomed the gathering.

The seminar had ten technical sessions. In the first day, the session on Ansys HFSS for RF circuits & Antenna Design was handled by Mr.Vishumendra Thakur, Ansys Application Engineer from ARK Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd. The Hands on Session Using Ansys HFSS for RF circuits & Antenna Design are also handled by him in the remaining sessions of that day.

In the second day Dr.R.Shantha Selvakumari, Sr. Professor & Head, MSEC, Sivakasi,handled the technical session on EM Wave Propagation and Antenna fundamentals and explained the fundamentals of Electromagnectics,wave propagation and the antenna design. Mr.D.S.Roland, Asst.Professor, MSEC, Sivakasi, handled the Technical Session on Design Challenges in MIC. He explained the aspects of MMIC technology, the design challenges involved and Current Researches in MIC. Mrs.R.Brinda, Asst. Professor (Sr.Grade) MSEC, Sivakasi, handled the technical session on Receiver Characteristics. She explains about the receiver performance measures and the operating characteristics of RF receiver. Dr.K.Kavitha, Associate ProfessorMSEC, Sivakasi gave a lecture on Fractal antenna Design. She explained the need of fractal antenna, the various types of fractal antenna and their characteristics.

In the third day, Prof.G.Prema, Professor, MSEC, Sivakasi, handled the Session on Reconfigurable Antenna Design. She explained the next generation networks based on cognitive radio and reconfigurable Antenna requirements. She explained the various techniques in realizing the reconfigurable Antenna using ADS and HFSS.

Mr.S.Vijay Gokul, MSEC, Sivakasi, gave a lecture on the topic; ADS-Layout Model Demonstration. He explained how to handle the ADS tool and explain about the various layout demonstrations. In continuation, he handled the Hands on session using ADS for RF circuits and Antenna design.

In the fourth day, Mr.V.Saravana Prabhu, Application Engineer, Keysight Technologies, handled the session Hands on Session Using System Vue for RF circuits & Antenna Design. He explained the Physical level design, system level design for various applications and he described the implementation of RF architectureusing system vue software. In the fifth day, Mr.V.Saravana Prabhu, Application Engineer, Keysight Technologies handled the Hands on Session Using EMPRO for Antenna Design. He explained the procedure to design and the analysis of the Antenna using EMPRO software by giving hands on experiments.

In the Valedictory function, certificates were issued by Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Senior Prof. & Head/ECE to the participants. The participants gave good feedback regarding the conduct of the seminar. Prof. G.Prema, Co-ordinator proposed the vote of thanks.

“Advanced Computational Intelligence and Optimization Techniques for

Healthcare Diagnosis System”

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi has conducted Two weeks AICTE sponsored Faculty Development Programme on “Advanced Computational Intelligence and Optimization Techniques for Healthcare Diagnosis System” during May 11 - 24, 2015. The brochure for the above Programme has been sent to around 750 Engineering & Polytechnic Colleges and interested Faculty members, to all southern states of India. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College has organised a Two Days Technical Seminar titled Emerging Techniques in Sparse Signal and Image Processing on September 9 & 10, 2016. 82 participants attended the seminar. Dr.S.Selva Nidhyananthan, Associate Professor / ECE Department & Co-ordinator of the seminar welcomed the gathering. The seminar had four technical sessions. In the first day, Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Sr.Prof. & Head /ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engg.College,handled the first technical session and gave an introduction toSparse Representation. Her presentation was exhaustive covering how to represents the sparse signals, analysis and synthesis of it. She inspired the participants with her rich research knowledge and explained the concepts in a simple way.

Dr.S.Selva Nidhyananthan, Associate Professor / ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engg.College,gave a lecture on the topic Sparse Blind Source Separation and established a strong foundation for the other technical sessions. He explained concept of blind source and its analysis.

In the third session, Dr.S.Anand, Associate Professor / ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engg.College presentedhis lecture on ‘Sparse Image Processing’. He fascinated the audience by his wonderful lecture covering aspects like dictionary matrix, sparse matrix etc.

In the second day, Mr. J.Rakshith, Research Scholar, IITM, Chennai, delivered a lecture onconcept of Sparsity & System of under-determined Linear equations.He described about sampling and recovery algorithm of sparsity. Further, he highlighted the research issues in the field of sparse signals and drenched the participants with this experience.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College has organised a Two Days Technical Seminar titled Video Analytics on September 18 & 19, 2015. 140 participants attended the seminar from 24 different Engineering colleges and polytechnic colleges from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. His presentation was exhaustive covering different types of Video Analytics namely Sports Analytics, Traffic Analytics etc. He inspired the participants with his rich research knowledge and explained the concepts in a simple way. He also demonstrated experiments conducted on live feeds obtained outside their campus. He enthralled the audience by presenting a comprehensive lecture supported by video clips illustrating every aspect of his presentation.Mr.Suresh Kirthi, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, gave a lecture on the topic Features for Video Analytics and established a strong foundation for the other technical sessions. He explained the variety of feature sets available that can be exploited for Video Analytics. Dr.Soma Biswas, Assistant Professor Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore presentedher lecture ‘Analytics for Surveillance Applications. She fascinated the audience by her wonderful lecture covering aspects like Traffic Analytics, Face Detection etc. In the fourth session, Dr.Krishna Reddy, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore presented his lecture on Compressed Domain Video Processing. He captivated the audience by presenting his work on live feeds. Mr.Sanath Narayan, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, delivered a lecture on Activity Recognition. He described about the different techniques involved in Activity recognition. Further, he highlighted the research issues in the field of Video Analytics and drenched the participants with this experience.

IETE Sivakasi centre has organized a Two Days Technical Seminar on Bio-Medical Signal / Image Processing for Diagnosis of Diseases during March 14-15, 2014.  The seminar started with a prayer song.  Dr. R. Shantha Selva Kumari, Chairperson, IETE Sivakasi Centre and Convenor of the seminar welcomed the gathering.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.R.Sukanesh, Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. In her inaugural speech, she emphasized the importance of the seminar title and the topics that were included in the seminar and how it is helping the society. 

The seminar had six technical sessions. In the Technical Session I, Dr. R. Sukanesh, Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, delivered the talk under the title “Contemporary trends in Bio-Signal Processing & its Applications”.  She explained the classification of bio-signals as bio-electric signals like ECG, EEG, EMG etc., and non bio-electric signals like blood pressure, respiratory pressures, volumes, flows, body temperature etc. She discussed the various electronic devices used in medicinal field. Technical Session II was on the topic“Vision& Imaging – A Technology Overview in Bio-medical Applications”, presented by Mr. S. Sukumar, Director, Online Solutions (Imaging) Private Limited, Chennai. He inspired the participants with his knowledge and explained the concepts in simple way. He informed about the emergence of a new kind of imaging technique namely Aura Imaging. 

Technical Session III was on the topic “Computerized Diagnosis system for abnormality detection in MR brain Images” handled by Dr. D. Selvathi, Professor, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi. She explained how imaging techniques help for determining the treatment for diseases.The first day of the seminar ended with the Technical session IV, which was handled by Dr. R. Shantha Selva Kumari, Chairperson, IETE Sivakasi Centre and Professor  & Head, Dept. of ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi on the topic, “ECG Signal Processing using Wavelets”. In her talk, she explained the various ECG signal pre-processing techniques, R Peak Detection and QRS Complex Detection.

In the second day, the Technical Session V was on the topic “Bio-Signal Processing Techniques for diagnosing diseases” handled by Dr. N. Finally, in Technical Session VI, Dr. R. Murugesan, Director, Faculty of Allied Sciences, Chettinad Academic Research & Education, Chennai delivered a lecture on “Impact of VLSI Technology in Medical Image Acquisition and Processing”.  He explained about the implantable medical devices in our body, challenges of quantitative image analysis, principles of ultra sound, piezoelectric and Doppler and DSPs in medical imaging.                   

Two Days Technical Seminar on “Recent Issues in Antenna Design and Testing”,

            The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College has organised a Two Days Technical Seminar onRecent Issues in Antenna Design and Testingduring September 24-25, 2013. 134 participants attended the seminar from 30 different  colleges from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Preadesh.Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, presided over the function.Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Prof. & Head/ECE &Convenorof the function welcomed the gathering.Mrs.K.Kavitha, AP/ECE Co-ordinator of the seminar introduced the Chief Guest.             The seminar had seven technical sessions. In the first day,Dr.P.Hanumantha Rao, Head-Antenna Division, SAMEER-CEM, Chennai,handled the technical sessions and explained the fundamentals of antenna design. He also discussed about the various issues in antenna design.  It gave knowledge for understanding how to design antenna, the miniaturization from LSI to VLSI and system on package. He inspired the participants with his Research knowledge and explained the concepts in a simple way. He also gave valuable information about Reconfigurable antennas. 

Mrs.K.Kavitha  AP/ECE, gave a  lecture on the topic; Metamaterial Antenna Design and Fractal Antenna Design. She explained the antenna design for the indigenous Indian Navigational Systems such as Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS) and GPS Aided Geo Augmentation (GAGAN).

In the second day, Mr.Pratik Khurana and Mr.S.Sridhar, Application Engineer, Agilent Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, delivered a lecture on Design issues of High Frequency antennas, Testing of antenna parameters using ADS, EMPro, SystemVue and Vector Network Analyzer. All the technical sessions were well received by the participants and the session remained interactive.

IETE has its 55th Sub Centre being housed at MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College Campus, Sivakasi . With dynamic functioning and increasing number of Corporate members, Fellows and IETE Student Forums(ISFs), the IETE Sivakasi Sub Centre has been upgraded to the status of IETE Sivakasi Centre.

In the Upgradation Ceremony convened on 15.02.’13, Dr.S.Pal, President, IETE HQ, New Delhi was the Chief Guest. Prof.Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Principal, MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, Founder Chairman, IETE Sivakasi Sub Centre and Governing Council Member, IETE HQ, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour.

On the second day of IETE Zonal Seminar, Dr.P.Hanumantha Rao, a renowned Scientist at SAMEER - Center of Electromagnetics, Chennai under Ministry of Communication and Information Technology delivered an interesting and interactive presentation as the Invited Talk – III on “Advances in RF and Micro Wave Systems”.

About 22 technical papers from 12 institutions were presented in two different Technical sessions in the Zonal Seminar. Serving as a Chief Guest, Dr.P.Hanumantha Rao delivered the Valedictory Address and distributed the Certificates to the delegates who presented their papers in the Valedictory Function.

The Invited Talks were well received by the Delegates and they provided positive feedback on the conduct of the Zonal Seminar. With complete satisfaction on the part of Delegates and Organizers, the Two days Zonal Seminar was concluded By National Anthem.

He gave a detailed discussion on Filter Banks, Psychoacoustics, Quantization and emphasized the importance of Audio processing in Consumer Electronics Applications.Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Professor andHead of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department, MSEC presided over the Valedictoryfunction.Certificates are distributed to the participants by Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari,  and the Guest speaker Mr.S.Anandha VelavanMr.M.Davidson Kamaladhas, Assistant Professor of ECE Department delivered the vote of thanks. Technical Seminar on "Optical Communication Networks"

The Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engineering of our College has conducted a Two Days Technical Seminar on Optical Communication Networks during September 16-17, 2011. This seminar was sponsored by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), New Delhi. 78 participants attended the seminar from various parts of the country.

The welcome address was given by Mr. T.Sabapathi, Co-ordinator. The chief guest was introduced to the Audience by Ms. R. Brinda. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.V. Saminadan, Associate professor, Department of ECE, Pondicherry Engineering College, Puducherry. The Presidential  address was given by Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal.

This seminar had seven technical sessions.  Dr. V. Saminadan, Associate Professor, PEC, Puducherry handled the first and second technical sessions and he explained the Introduction & Necessity of Optical networks and the concept of Multicasting in Optical Networks.   It gives the knowledge about the point to point optical communication system and the WDM system. He inspired the participants with his Research knowledge and explained the concepts in the simplest way.

In the other technical sessions, Mr. Srinivas Pai and Ms. Swathi from M/s. Fiber Optika Technologies Ltd., Bangalore demonstrated the Real time simulation of optical Communication system by Light Runner WDM work bench.  Mr.M.Senthil Vinoth from M/s. Supreme Scientific Corporation Ltd., Madurai explained the simulation softwares.

Finally, the Fiber optic sensor networks have been explained by Dr. A. Sivanantharaja, Professor, A.C. College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi. All the technical sessions were well received by the participants.

Two Days Technical Seminar on Communication System Design Techniques and Tools

IETE SIVAKASI SUB-CENTRE housed at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College organized a Two Days Technical Seminar on “Communication System Design Techniques and Tools” during March 04 & 05, 2011. Around 90 participants attended the seminar from various districts of the state.

Dr.R.ShanthaSelvaKumari, Hon. Secretary, IETE Sivakasi Sub-centre welcomed the gathering. Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal, MSEC gave the inaugural address. He lighted the ceremonial lamp as a mark of inaugurating the two days Technical Seminar.

The two days technical seminar had altogether eight sessions. In the first day of the seminar in Sessions-I and II, Shri.M.Senthil Vinodh, Product Manager, Supreme Scientific Corporation, Madurai gave an introduction to various Rsoft tools namely BandSOLVE, MetroWAND, GratingMOD, BeamPROP, FullWAVE, LaserMOD and in particular OptSim. In Technical session – III, Shri.M.Senthil Vinodh handled a hands-on session on OptSim which was much appreciated by the audience.

Prof.T.Sabapathi, AP / ECE, MEPCO Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi gave a demonstration of a few examples in OptSim in the post lunch session of the first day. The participants were divided into two groups and they were connected by a CCTV arrangement.

The Electronics and Communication Engineering department of our College is organizing a National Level Technical Seminar on “Wavelet Transforms and its Applications” during February 04-05, 2011. Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal and Convener Dr.S.Arivazhagan, HOD/ECE, and the Coordinator Mr.S.Anand, AP/ECE are made elaborate arrangements to organize the seminar. The hot research topics on Applications of Wavelet Transform are being discussed in this seminar attracted around 75 participants from 20 Engineering Colleges to attend. Dr.S.Chandrasekaran, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore delivered the Keynote Address on Wavelet Fundamentals and Applications”. This course would impart knowledge and experience to the participants in the field of Wavelet Applications.

Dr.S.Chandrasekaran, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), emphasized the significance of the Wavelet Transform. In his speech, he emphasized the significance of the wavelets. His speech follows: “Wavelets came to picture before 4 decades right from Fourier Transforms. Sparsity analysis and signal representation can be done by wavelets. Biomedical image processing also requires wavelets. Number theoretic applications are useful in many fields. For this Srinivasa Ramanujam is the role model for all analysis”. Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Prof/ECE, MSEC delivered the lecture on “Wavelet based ECG Signal Coding and ‘R’ Peak Detection”. Mr.S.Anand, Assistant Professor of ECE Department delivered the lecture on “Wavelet based Denoising and Enhancement”. Dr.K.Muneeswaran HOD/CSE, MSEC delivered the lecture on, "Wavelet Packet Analysis and Pattern recognition.”

In the Second Day of the Seminar (05.2.2011), Eminent Expert Dr.K.P.Soman, Centre for Excellence in Computational Engineering and Networking , Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, delivered the expert lecture on M band Wavelets: Design and Applications”. Mr.R.Ramanathan of same institute delivered the lecture on, “Lifting Wavelets: Design and Applications”. In addition, Dr.D.Selvathi, Prof/ECE, delivered the lecture on “Intelligent Processing of Medical Images in Wavelet Domain”.

This seminar had seven technical sessions. Dr.S.J.Thiruvengadam, Associate Professor,TCE, Madurai handled the technical sessions and he explained the concept and significance of using multiple antennas in wireless systems. He also discussed about the various diversity schemes. It gives the knowledge about the channel capacity and the understanding to discriminate bandwidth limited regime and power limited regime. He inspired the participants with his Research knowledge and explained the concepts in the simplest way. In addition he encouraged and motivated the audience to pursue research in the field of MIMO Wireless Communication. In the other technical sessions, Mr.M.N.Suresh, Assistant Professor, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai delivered the lecture on the topic, Wireless Channel and MIMO Channel Modeling. All the technical sessions were well received by the participants.

Two Days Technical Seminar on Network Security - Research Issues and Challenges

 IETE SIVAKASI SUB-CENTRE housed at Mepco Schlenk Engineering College organized a Two Days Technical Seminar on Network Security - Research Issues and Challenges during May 17 & 18, 2010. Around 30 participants attended the seminar from various districts of the state. The keynote address had the theme : Better City, Better Life with ICTs. In his keynote address, the Chief Guest, Dr.S.Selvakumar, Professor, CSE Department, NIT- Tiruchirapalli explained about the evolution of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in various disciplines and their role in making life easier.

 In the first day of the seminar in Sessions-I and II, Dr.S.Selvakumar, Professor, CSE Department, NIT- Tiruchirapalli explained the fundamentals as well as the research issues of Network Security. Technical session – III handled by Dr. Kannan Balasubramanian, Professor, CSE Department, MSEC, Sivakasi was about Application Layer Protocol Security.

 All the technical sessions on the second day of the seminar were handled by Mr. K.Bhaskar, Technical Manager, embedUR Systems (I) Pvt. Ltd. He explained in detail the various protocols available in different layers for providing security.

Two Days Technical Seminar on “Mobile Networking and Computing” organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College was inaugurated on January 29, 2010.Sixty one participants attended the seminar from various parts of the country. Mrs.G.Prema, Co-ordinator for the seminar welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal, MSEC presided over the inaugural function.The two days seminar was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Dr.Asoke Talukder, Director, Geschikten Solutions Pvt. This seminar had eight technical sessions. Dr.Asoke Talukder handled first three technical sessions on Mobile Computing Techniques, Research Issues and Practical Applications in Mobile Computing. He inspired the participants with his industrial knowledge and explained the concepts in the simplest way. In addition he encouraged and motivated the audience to pursue research in the field of mobile computing. In the fourth technical session, Prof.R.Shenbagaraj, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College delivered the lecture on the topic, Security Issues in Mobile Computing and M commerce.

On day 2 (Jan 30, 2010), the Fifth Technical Session on Pervasive Computing in Mobile Networking and Applications was handled by Dr.K.Muneeswaran, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College. He explained the applications of pervasive computing with real time examples. The Sixth Technical Session on Road Map to Global Communication was handled by Dr.M.Suganthi, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai. She explained the technological growth and methods to realize global communication facilities with wireless networks. Seventh Technical Session on Cross-Layer Design Issues in Mobile Networks was handled by Mrs.G.Indumathi, AP / ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College discussed about the research outcomes in this area. Eighth Technical Session on Security Issues in Wireless Networks was handled by Dr.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Prof / ECE, Mepco Schlenk Engineering College and she explained the recent trends in research regarding this topic. All the eight technical sessions were well received by the participants.

The two days technical seminar on Soft Computing Approches for Image Processing Applications organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College was inaugurated on February 6, 2009. Dr.S.Arivazhagan, HOD/ECE and Convener for the seminar welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal, MSEC presided over the inaugural function. Dr.S.Thamarai Selvi, Prof & Head, IT Dept, MIT Campus, Anna University Chennai, the Chief Guest for the inaugural functionlighted the Kuthvilakku and declare the seminar opened in the conventional way. She delivered a fruitful lecture on the topic, “Artificial Neural Networks Concepts and Applications”. By this session, she motivated the faculty and researchers. The fundamental ideas given by the speaker was highly notable and useful. She showers her innovative ideas towards the eager technical group. This Technical Session inclined more on the case studies inspired any one attended the seminar.

In the second technical session, Prof.R.Harikumar, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, Sathyamangalam delivered the lecture on the topic, “Image Processing using Fuzzy Logic Systems”.Hemade everyone to realize the inevitable role played by Fuzzy Logic Systems in image processing area of research. His introduction to this emerging trend attracted all.

On day 2 (Feb 7, 2009), Dr. N. Kumaravel, Professor & Head, Dept. of ECE, Anna University, Chennai gave the Technical talk on, “Genetic Algorithm Methods and Image Processing applications”. He elaborated the Genetic tool in an efficient way. Various applications such as Clustering, feature extraction and edge detection, explained by the speaker can be applied by the researches according to their interest. His wide knowledge in the field of research and his method of delivery attracted everyone.

The valedictory function came to the end of the two day technical celebrations, where Dr. N. Kumaravel was the Chief Guest. In his valedictory address, he encouraged the researchers and advised to enrich the technical knowledge. Prof.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Professor/ECE gave the concluding remarks and Dr.D.Selvathi, Prof / ECE and one of the Co-ordinators proposed the vote of thanks.

This seminar was sponsored by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), New Delhi. Around 55 participants attended the seminar. 

The welcome address was given by Prof.R.Shantha Selva Kumari, Co-ordinator. The Presidential Address by Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IISc., Bangalore. This seminar has seven technical sessions.

In the first day of the seminar in Session-I & II Multimedia Signal Processing - An Overview by Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan, IISC, Bangalore, delivered the Basic Coding Techniques for Signal, Image and Video. In Session-IIIMr.Anurag Jain, Texas Instruments (India) Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, delivered an elaborate lecture on the topic Video Compression. In the second day of the seminar,Session-IV & V Audio Compression - I & II by Dr. J.Sujatha, TCS, Bangalore, was given. She ellaborately discussed the all MPEG formats used for Audio Compression. In Session-VIContent Based Image Retrieval by Mr. Kumarraja, IISc, Bangalore was discussed. He gave the research outcomes and recent trends in research regarding the topic. Session-VII Image Forensics / Water Marking & Stegnography by Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan, IISC, Bangalore. He gave a wide knowledge and practical issues about the topic. Then the vote of thanks was given by Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Convener of the seminar. Dr.S.Balakrishnan, Principal in join hand the Convener thanked Dr.K.R.Ramakrishnan and his teem for their wonderful lectures. Finally the seminar ended successfully with the National Anthem. 

 

One Day Workshop on Networks Laboratory

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College organized a One Day Workshop on “Networks Laboratory” on August 30, 2006 for a total number of 52 faculty members from 26 colleges. 

Dr.S.Arivazhagan, Professor & Head, Department of ECE welcomed the gathering. The Principal, Dr.S. Balakrishnan presided over the inaugural function and delivered the Presidential Address.

The Chief Guest Shri.B.Dhanasekar, General Manager - Technical, BENCHMARK Electronic Systems Pvt. Ltd., Chennai delivered the Inaugural address and gave an overview about Theory on Networking in Session I. In Session II, Shri.B.Dhanasekar & Mr.F.Benedict of BENCHMARK Electronic Systems Pvt. Ltd., presented their demonstration on Networks Lab Experiments. Session III covered the presentation on  i Securit. In Session IV, participants were given hands-on training in LAN Trainers.

In the Valedictory function, Shri.B.Dhanasekar, gave a brief summary on the Workshop while, Certificates were distributed to the participants by our Principal.
